Slovenia wins Eurovision Choir of the Year!

As you’ve probably heard, if you’ve been following our features over the last few weeks, the Eurovision Family of Events expanded to include the Eurovision Choir of the Year. This event took place on the 22nd of July in the capital of Latvia, Riga, where nine choirs took to the stage all hoping to win the first Choir of the Year trophy!

The participants were:

  • Hardchor Linz (Austria)

  • Les Pastoreaux (Belgium)

  • Academic Choir of Aarhus (Denmark)

  • Estonian TV Girls’ Choir (Estonia)

  • Jazzchor Freiburg (Germany)

  • Spīgo (Latvia)

  • Carmen Manet (Slovenia)

  • Bela Bartok Male Choir (Hungary)

  • Côr Merched Sir Gâr (Wales)

Each choir performed a six minute set, which could include one or more pieces that reflected their national or regional character in some way. The choirs were judged by a high profile jury, including British composer John Rutter and Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča.
